Does Your System use Compatible Systems?

The world we live in today is fast-paced and technology-driven. Not a day goes by that we don’t hear about a new device, a new app or new software that can outperform the previous version or existing technology. And, while all these new technologies and systems are usually good, these new advances often can present frustrations when trying to keep up with everything. This is especially true in the software business. Think of a time when your company embraced a new software or just a new version of an existing software package. Were all of your other systems compatible with the new software or new version?

The frustration grows when you finally get all of your systems talking to each other and then the decision is made once again to upgrade software. It’s a vicious cycle.

Back in the day, creating something incompatible with other systems was a strategic move—customers had to keep coming back to your company when new technology or software was developed, but in today’s world of educated consumers, this approach is not the smart way to go anymore. Making sure your systems are compatible with other systems is crucial to retain and grow your customer base.

I recently was invited to talk about the importance of integrating your systems with other systems to stay competitive in today’s business world by Document Strategy Magazine, a popular publication among individuals whose roles focus on communications, enterprise content management and information management strategies. I’d like to invite you to read more about the importance of integrating your systems by reading the full article.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this business practice. Have you had a positive experience which resulted from the integration of a software or system with other systems? Is this part of your strategy as you plan for 2016? Please comment below to share your thoughts on this topic.
