The morning of Friday, May 9, 2025, the United States Postal Service Board of Governors announced their appointment of David Steiner as the 76th Postmaster General and CEO of the USPS. The Postal Service anticipates Steiner may be able to assume his new role as soon as this July, pending completion of the vetting process with background and ethics checks.
The former Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, resigned earlier this year on March 24. His Deputy, Doug Tulino, stepped in as Acting Postmaster General until a permanent successor could be found. Tulino will resume his position on the Board of Governors as Deputy Postmaster General and Chief Human Resources Officer.
Steiner’s career originated in law before he began working for Waste Management, eventually rising through the organization to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer. His 12-year tenure was characterized by transformational leadership that allowed for greater efficiency in operations and streamlined pricing while expanding lines of business. Steiner also serves on the boards of multiple organizations: E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University (his Alma Mater), FedEx Corporation, Vulcan Materials, AMP.
Upon his appointment, Steiner remarked, “It is an incredible honor to be asked to lead the world’s greatest postal organization, with a history that stretches back before the founding of the United States. I deeply admire the public service and business mission of this amazing institution, and I believe strongly in maintaining its role as an independent establishment of the executive branch. I look forward to engaging with its employees, who provide such an important service to all our communities. As the entity with the largest union membership in the United States, I look forward to engaging with the unions and management associations to ensure that together we create a world-class employment experience. I also look forward to working with industry associations, customers, and policymakers, as we chart a positive path forward. I am excited by the challenges ahead and by the many opportunities to shape a vibrant, durable and increasingly competitive future for the Postal Service. And, finally, but most importantly, I want to thank Doug for his excellent stewardship of the organization that he has dedicated his professional life to serve.”
The USPS has also filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) on Friday, May 9 to make changes to shipping services prices that would take effect on Sunday, July 13, 2025. These changes were already approved by the USPS Board of Governors earlier in the week.
The changes to domestic shipping services are as follows:
There will be no change to prices for Priority Mail Express service.
Like the other proposed rate changes to other mailing services last month, the PRC will still need to review and approve these proposed changes before they take effect in July. Venture Solutions will continue to monitor further updates and communicate any additional changes. Please feel free to reach out to your account management team if you have any questions about how these proposed rate increases may affect your mailing programs.
